SHEA Engineering Services provides expert technical advice, support and documentation for the electronics manufacturing industry. With over 35 years of PCBA engineering experience and a clear and engaging communication style, Chrys provides a wide array of consultative services for SMT users and suppliers.
An SMT Process Engineer at heart, Chrys helps assemblers develop and improve assembly processes, and helps suppliers introduce new equipment and materials to the industry. Since her very first job at Compaq Computer in 1990, she has spent her career pushing the envelope of electronics miniaturization. She focuses her research on advanced technology that will be mainstream on the 1 to 3 year horizon.
Chrys is also known for her training and technical publications. With 15 years of hands-on training and over 25 years of publishing technical papers in her repertoire, she provides webinars, podcasts and free basic training on this website, as well as in-person process audits and training.
Chrys founded SHEA Engineering Services in 2008. After 20 years of process engineering and management on both the user and supplier sides of the industry, she set out on her own as an independent consultant.
Chrys is now considered a soldering expert, having been dubbed the “Queen of Soldering” by her colleagues. Her expertise spans from tin-lead wave soldering to lead-free and low temperature Wafer Level Packages in the 2020’s. She is recognized as an SMTA Member of Technical Distinction and has received the SMTA International “Best of Conference” award - 4 times!
In 2024 Carlos Machado joined SHEA as CFO, business manager and print data analyst. With the added resources, SHEA Engineering is expanding its service offerings to include direct sales of the SMTA Miniaturization Test Vehicle and development of the brand new UltraHDI SMTA Test Vehicle, as well as pre-fabricated DOEs and analysis services.
Chrys earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and her M.S. in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, where she studied Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) under Dr.’s Geoffry Boothroyd and Peter Dewhurst. Carlos earned his B.S. in Management Science from Johnson and Wales University, and his Executive MBA from Temple University Fox School of Management.
